Trevor McGowan

Training & Experience

I qualified as a court reporter in London in 1999, at the age of 22. I then gained my advanced, realtime court-reporting qualification in 2000.

In the early years, I also covered UK court hearings and general stenography, including:

  • High Court, House of Lords;
  • Central Criminal Court, Court of Appeal;
  • Public Inquiries; VAT/C&E Tribunals; Financial Services Authority investigations; Law Society hearings; Employment Tribunals; hospital inquiries;
  • AGMs; press conferences; commercial interviews.

Recent work

My work has focused on international hearings since 1999, when I moved to mainland Europe. Subsequently I chose to specialise in arbitration proceedings, and the specific challenges they present.

In addition to hearings under many different Rules of Arbitration, I have supplied realtime and/or same-day transcription for the following:

  • US depositions;
  • War crimes trials at the International Criminal Court in The Hague;
  • International Olympic Committee arbitrations and disciplinary hearings;
  • Live-to-air court subtitling for the BBC and Sky News;
  • Legal conferences, seminars/symposia.
